This produces extremely high rate of change of magnetic field in this Rhumkorff's coil, giving rise to a potential of several thousand volts in secondary, which is observable in the form of repetitive spark up to 25mm long across adjustable needle. Provided with a safety spark gap beneath needle socket terminals to protect internal damage to the coil against very high voltages. Output from the terminal can also be used to operate high voltage devices such as spectrum tubes etc. operates on 6-9V DC.
