DEMOUNTABLE TRANSFORMER 1509

DISSECTIBLE TRANSFORMER 1509_1
This transformer has been designed primarily for demonstration of the basic principles of the a.c. transformer. The various coils and cores will also serve as the basis of many experiments in electromagnetism, using either direct or alternating current. To this end, the number of turns, the direction of winding and the continuous maximum rated current are marked on each coil. Includes the following componants:

In the basic transformer set all coils are fitted 4mm socket connection, but 600-, and 1200-, turn coils are available (as accessories) fitted with shielded plugs for connection to the a.c. mains supply. All coils are of enamelled copper wire wound on high impact plastic moulded bobbins 75mm long with cheeks 75x60mm. The robust clamping base is provided with a tommy-bar screw to hold the ‘U’ core, and two knurled nuts to secure the armature and provide for easy changeover of the coils. Soft iron pieces are provided which locate on top of the ‘U’ core arms. One end of each pole piece is flat so that the pole pieces provide a narrow gap with the full cross-sectional area, while the other end is in the form of a truncated cone giving a narrow concentrated field between the poles.

A star shaped copper disc 90 mm dia rotatable vertically on pair of adjustable centres & dipping into small mercury trough between the vertical limbs of a small horse shoe magnet on a wooden base 150 x 100 mm. The disc adjustable vertically on a metal pillar 75 mm high which is connected to one of the two terminals mounted on the base. The other terminal is connected to the mercury trough. FORCE ON CONDUCTOR IN MAGNETIC FIELD 1509_3
Comprising a strong U-shaped magnet and a pair of brass rails with 4mm socket terminals. A brass axle with plastic discs is free to roll along the rails and completes the electrical contact between them. When the axle is placed on the rails between the poles of the magnet and a power supply unit is connected, the axle is repelled and rolls along the rails away from the center of magnetic field. MAGNETIC THEORY BOARD 1515
Consists of 20 small ungraduated transparent compasses mounted on a clear plastic base. Compasses are ready to line up with the magnetic field lines of any bar or horseshoe magnet placed on or near the board. This is an alternative to the mess of working with traditional iron filing to demonstrate this principle. Compass can be removed for use in other experiments.
MAGNETIC FORCE ON A CONDUCTOR BALANCE 1516
To demonstrate that when a current is passed through a conductor in a magnetic field, it is subjected to attraction or repulsion dependig upon the direction of current in it. The apparatus consists of a plastic base 160 x 140 mm on which two contact pillars are mounted. Each pillar is provided with an external circuit. A balanced beam is supported by the pillars on two bearings which form the fulcrum. Two screwed masses are provided in the beam system, one moving vertically for the adjustment of sensitivity and the other moving horizontally for the adjustment of the equilibrium position, when no current is flowing. Scale marked 0 to 75 x 1 mm, rider of 1 gm. weight, complete with instructions.

DEFLECTION MAGNETOMETER 1521
Comprising a bakelite box 100mm dia with aluminium dial marked with degrees 0-90º four times, antiparallax mirror and a steel needle pivot at the centre. The short magnetic needle has a jewel bearing and an aluminium pointer for precise reading on the dial. This magnetometer compass box is fitted at the centre of one metre long wooden board with two half metre scales reading from the centre of the compass box complete.
DEMONSTRATION TRANSFORMER 1522
The primary coil is of 200/250 volts and two interchangeable secondary coils give an output at 6 and 12 volts at 2 Amps. Assembly of the transformer and interchanging of coils can be done quickly. Complete with 2 mt. cord and plug connections.
