DEMOUNTABLE TRANSFORMER 1509
A large-scale transformer, ideal for classroom. The coils are fitted with intermediary outputs providing many transformation ratios. Moreover, one of them has a mains cable so that you do not require an external power supply unit. Consisting of :
A) 1 magnetic circuit made up of highly permeable U-shaped metal sheeting, which can be closed via two clamps with tightening screws.
B) Section 40 x 40 mm. Length 150 mm – Height 170 mm.
C) One coil of 6000 turns, 350 ohms, 1 max: 0.2 A. Intermediary 2000 turns output used
D) One coil of 600 turns, 1 max: 2.5 A. Mainly to create the transformer primary. Provided with power supply cable.
E) One coil of 1200 turns, 12.5 ohms, 1 max: 1.25A fitted with intermediary 400 and 800 turns outputs.
F) One coil of 72turns 1 max: 12A, has intermediary 6, 30 54 and 66 turns outputs.
DISSECTIBLE TRANSFORMER 1509_1
This transformer has been designed primarily for demonstration of the basic principles of the a.c. transformer. The various coils and cores will also serve as the basis of many experiments in electromagnetism, using either direct or alternating current. To this end, the number of turns, the direction of winding and the continuous maximum rated current are marked on each coil. Includes the following componants:
1 Clamp base.
1 laminated ‘U’ core length of side 133mm, base 95mm, section 32 x 25mm.
1 laminated armature 95 x 32 x 25mm.
2 soft iron pole pieces.
1 300-turn 4A coil.
2 600-turn 2A coils.
1 1200-turn 1A coil.
1 3600-turn 0.3A coil, centre tapped.
1 12000-turn 0.05A coil.
1 detailed instruction book.
In the basic transformer set all coils are fitted 4mm socket connection, but 600-, and 1200-, turn coils are available (as accessories) fitted with shielded plugs for connection to the a.c. mains supply. All coils are of enamelled copper wire wound on high impact plastic moulded bobbins 75mm long with cheeks 75x60mm. The robust clamping base is provided with a tommy-bar screw to hold the ‘U’ core, and two knurled nuts to secure the armature and provide for easy changeover of the coils. Soft iron pieces are provided which locate on top of the ‘U’ core arms. One end of each pole piece is flat so that the pole pieces provide a narrow gap with the full cross-sectional area, while the other end is in the form of a truncated cone giving a narrow concentrated field between the poles.
BARLOW WHEEL 1509_2
A star shaped copper disc 90 mm dia rotatable vertically on pair of adjustable centres & dipping into small mercury trough between the vertical limbs of a small horse shoe magnet on a wooden base 150 x 100 mm. The disc adjustable vertically on a metal pillar 75 mm high which is connected to one of the two terminals mounted on the base. The other terminal is connected to the mercury trough. Operates on 4 Volts.
FORCE ON CONDUCTOR IN MAGNETIC FIELD 1509_3
Comprising a strong U-shaped magnet and a pair of brass rails with 4mm socket terminals. A brass axle with plastic discs is free to roll along the rails and completes the electrical contact between them. When the axle is placed on the rails between the poles of the magnet and a power supply unit is connected, the axle is repelled and rolls along the rails away from the center of magnetic field. Dimensions 175x60x58mm high.
MAGNETIZER 1510
Used to revitalize iron, nickle, cobalt, and alnico bar and horseshoe magnets.
Simply place magnets in the 1X1” hole and push the beaker switch. Equipped
with on/off switch, breaker switch, pilot light and grounded 3-prong plug.
Operates on 220V AC. Instructions are screened on the cabinet.
STIRRUP 1511
Made of brass wire for suspension of magnets length 50mm, height 40mm approx.
MAGNETIC NEEDLE 1512
A carbon steel needle with brass bearing well balanced. Size:
(a) 50mm
(b) 75mm
(c) 100mm
NEEDLE STAND 1513
For magnetic needles with bakelite base and aluminium pillar supporting a steel
needle pivot. Height 80mm.
PLOTTING COMPASS 1514
In aluminium case.
(a) 12mm dia one side glass
(b) 18mm dia both side glass
MAGNETIC THEORY BOARD 1515
Consists of 20 small ungraduated transparent compasses mounted on a clear plastic
base. Compasses are ready to line up with the magnetic field lines of any
bar or horseshoe magnet placed on or near the board. This is an alternative
to the mess of working with traditional iron filing to demonstrate this principle.
Compass can be removed for use in other experiments.
MAGNETIC FORCE ON A CONDUCTOR BALANCE 1516
To demonstrate that when a current is passed through a conductor in a magnetic field, it is subjected to attraction or repulsion dependig upon the direction of current in it. The apparatus consists of a plastic base 160 x 140 mm on which two contact pillars are mounted. Each pillar is provided with an external circuit. A balanced beam is supported by the pillars on two bearings which form the fulcrum. Two screwed masses are provided in the beam system, one moving vertically for the adjustment of sensitivity and the other moving horizontally for the adjustment of the equilibrium position, when no current is flowing. Scale marked 0 to 75 x 1 mm, rider of 1 gm. weight, complete with instructions.
